Privacy Concerns
Despite the growing use of DNA testing, civil rights groups
across the country continue to advocate that DNA testing has serious privacy concerns. An ACLU representative once warned, “I don’t think anyone should ever be comfortable that the government is collecting a database of personal information.” He continued by stating that taking DNA samples from arrestees will mean that DNA evidence is available at the law enforcement’s fingertips. These same groups argue that taking DNA without permission of the individual violates the Fourth Amendment which prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures. |
